The short answer

How Do You Print a Picture on a Vinyl Record?

Your picture is printed on a thin waterproof layer and sealed inside a clear picture disc, on the side that plays. Then the groove is cut through it on a lathe, one record at a time.

The other side is white matt, and you can write on it. For a classic black record, we print your artwork on the cover and the centre label instead.

How we print

Custom Vinyl Record Printing, in Our Own Workshop

Record printing is done in the same room as the lathes that cut your record. Nothing is printed until you order, so every print is made for you.

  • A Person Opens Your File

They check the size, the crop, the edges and the hole in the middle. If something looks wrong, we get in touch before anything is printed.

  • Calibrated Printers and Screens

Every screen and printer in the workshop is colour calibrated. Card and vinyl don't glow like a phone screen, so we don't promise a match to yours.

  • The Right Material

Covers are heavyweight archival card, matt or gloss laminated. Picture-disc images go on a waterproof material made to sit inside a record.

  • Cut to Shape, Checked Again

Every cover, label and picture-disc image is die cut to size, hearts to their outline. Then it is checked against your order once more before it is packed.

How it works

How Your Printed Record Is Made

  1. 01

    Pick the Songs

Search for songs, upload your own files or record your voice. The playlist builder shows what fits on each side as you add them.

  2. 02

    Design It

Put your photo and your words on the disc, the centre label or a printed cover. You see your record in 3D as you go.

  3. 03

    Optional: Hear It First

At checkout you can choose to hear your record's audio and approve it before we cut. It adds about a day.

  4. 04

    Cut, Packed and Sent

Your record is cut to order, one at a time, on our own lathes, then sent by tracked delivery.

Questions People Ask

How much does it cost to print one vinyl record?

The smallest is the 5 Inch Picture Disc. Each size's starting price is in the table above, in your currency, and the product page shows the price for your record as you build it. Delivery is added at checkout, where you see the full price before you pay.

Can I print my own vinyl record at home?

Not one that plays. There is no home vinyl record printer: the music is a groove cut by a lathe, and the picture has to be sealed inside the disc before it is cut. You design it here with your own photo, and we print it and cut it.

What are print on demand vinyl records?

Records that are printed and cut only when someone orders one. That is how we work: no stock, no minimum, one copy is a normal order.

What photo works best?

Send the original file, not a screenshot or a picture saved from social media. A good phone photo in decent light is usually enough. If your photo is too small, the designer tells you before you pay. Keep faces and names away from the centre: the middle of the disc is the spindle hole.

Will the print last?

Yes. The print is sealed inside the disc, so a gentle clean will not harm it. If a print arrives with a fault that is ours, we reprint it or replace the record.

Does a picture disc play like a normal record?

Yes. It plays on a normal turntable, on one side. The music is on the side with your picture; the white matt back is where people often write a message.

Can I print album artwork or a band logo?

No. Album covers, band logos and record label branding are copyrighted. Use your own photos or artwork instead. The details are on our copyright page.

When will it be dispatched?

Every record is cut to order. Estimated dispatch Wednesday 4 November for an order placed now, and each product page shows its own estimate.

Can I hear it before you cut it?

Yes. At checkout you can choose to hear your record's audio and approve it before we cut it. It adds about a day. It checks the sound and the running order of the songs you chose; the songs themselves are set when you order.

How is it delivered?

By tracked delivery. At checkout you choose Value or Express for your address and see the cost before you pay.
