Buying guide
How to Choose the Best Custom Vinyl Record
The best custom vinyl record is the one made and delivered the way you need it. A lathe-cut record is made one at a time: one copy is a normal order, and a batch of hundreds is cut in order and sent as it's finished, the first ones in days. Pressing can be cheaper per copy on a mass run, but it needs a minimum and the wait is often weeks or months, with delays you can't plan around. Then check eight things before you pay.
As of 1 November 2026, VinylArt Co cuts records one at a time, with a median of 32 working hours from order to dispatch and 98.5% of orders right first time.
Pressed or Lathe-Cut?
Pressing suits hundreds of identical copies and a long wait; a lathe cuts one record, or a batch, with no minimum. The full comparison is on our lathe cut vs pressed vinyl page.
Eight Things to Check Before You Order
Whoever you order from, ask these questions. Next to each one is our answer, with live numbers where we have them.
| What to check | Why it matters | At VinylArt Co |
|---|---|---|
| Turnaround | Why it matters"Made to order" can mean days or weeks. Ask for a measured figure, not a promise. | At VinylArt CoMedian of 32 working hours from order to dispatch, over the last 30 orders. |
| Where it's made and shipped from | Why it mattersIt decides delivery time, import charges and who you talk to if something goes wrong. | At VinylArt CoMade and packed in our own workshop since 2016, and sent tracked. Recent parcels to our busiest destinations (last 90 days, dispatch to delivery): United Kingdom 1–2 working days, Netherlands 1–5 working days and Australia 2–8 working days. Each range runs from the fastest delivery to how long 9 in 10 parcels took. It's a record of past parcels, not a guarantee. |
| One-off ordering | Why it mattersSome makers want a minimum run. For a gift you want exactly one. | At VinylArt CoMinimum order is one record. No setup fee, no rush fee. |
| Sizes and shapes | Why it mattersSize sets how much music fits. Picture discs play on one side only. | At VinylArt CoPlaying time per side: 5-inch up to 4 min, 7-inch up to 6 min, heart-shaped up to 8½ min, 10-inch up to 14 min and 12-inch up to 20 min. Picture discs are one-sided; classic vinyl plays on both sides. |
| Covers and labels | Why it mattersA record in a plain sleeve is a different gift from one with its own printed cover. | At VinylArt CoPrinted covers for every size, and custom centre labels for classic vinyl, designed in our online designer. |
| Price band | Why it mattersCompare the price of the finished thing: record, cover and delivery, not just the disc. | At VinylArt CoRecords from £17.00 to £64.00. Covers from £10.00. Delivery is shown at checkout. |
| How the sound is checked | Why it mattersEvery lathe-cut record is its own cut, so each one should be checked, not just the first. | At VinylArt CoCut with our own synthetic diamond styli, driven by cutting software we wrote for our lathes. Every record gets a noise-floor test and is listened to before it's packed. |
| Right first time | Why it mattersMistakes happen with any handmade product. What matters is how often, and what the maker does next. | At VinylArt Co98.5% of orders since 23 March 2025 needed no replacement. If yours isn't right, we recut or replace it. |
